POSITION TITLE:

Gloucester County Public Schools FLSA: Exempt/200 days/10 months
SALARY: $42,695 – $71,756, depending on education and experience. Subject to change, pending adoption of the
Pay Plan for 2021-2022.
GENERAL STATEMENT: The behavioral specialist works collaboratively with the student’s educational team and parents to develop
intervention strategies and positive behavioral supports for the classroom and within the school environment, that allows the student to successfully integrate behaviorally into the school setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification, preferred
• Masters or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education or related field
• Successful experience with Applied Behavior Analysis and working with teachers, students, and parents
• Demonstrated ability to assess children’s behavioral needs and competence in the design of appropriate
  instructional strategies and educational programs
• Experience training staff in behavioral principles and procedures
• Strong computer, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Aptitude and competence necessary for assigned responsibilities
• Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Satisfactory completion of all onboarding requirements prior to first day of employment, including, but
  not limited to:
   Documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.
   Virginia State Police/FBI criminal history background check
   Virginia Department of Social Services background check
   Tuberculosis test/screening completed within the last 12 months
  
  ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Provides training, professional development, and coaching on effective behavior interventions and strategies.
• Develops a division-wide system for behavior consultations, data collection, and intervention methodologies
• Develops, implements, and trains staff on behavior modification plans; evaluate the effectiveness of behavior management and
  intervention plans.
• Creates and assists school staff with the development of behavior plans, ABA programs, and other appropriate programs for students that present skill deficits (e.g., communication and adaptive behavior) and problem behavior (e.g., aggression, self-injurious
  behavior), among others.
• Provides outreach, consultation, and workshops to train teachers, related service staff, school administrators, and families.
• Offers guidance to families regarding community-based services related to and available for students.
• Serves as an IEP team member when behavior consultation services are requested.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Assists the administration in developing and implementing policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the
  classroom, develops and implements reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure necessary to maintain order in the
  classroom in a fair and impartial manner.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when
  required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Attends staff meetings and supports school improvement activities by serving on school committees and action teams.
• Serves as a model for effective oral and written communication, with special attention to correct usage of language and spelling.
• Strives to integrate the use of technology.
• Acts in a courteous and respectful manner, using good judgment and appropriate communication skills at all times.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding students, parents, and other staff members.
• Models non-discriminatory behavior in all activities.
• Performs related work as required.
  
  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: No significant amount of climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions required. Must have the use of sensory skills as normally
  defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
